Essequibo businessman beaten, robbed of phone, cash at Vreed-en-hoop stelling

A 55-year-old businessman of Eastern Hog Island, Essequibo River was on Wednesday robbed of his cellphone and a sum of money by three unidentifiable males at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Police in a statement said at about 21:30 hours, Thakoor Singh was at his cousin’s snackette which was closing for the night when he went to feed the dogs on the road.

On returning to the snackette to collect his bag, he was confronted by the men, one armed with a chopper which he used to hit Singh about his body causing him injuries.

In the process the other two suspects held on to Singh’s hands, pushed their hands into his pants pocket and robbed him of One Blu cellphone with sim value $8000 and an undisclosed amount of cash.

They then made good their escape in a western direction on foot.

Singh reported the matter and he was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

The scene was also visited and the area was searched for anything of evidential value but none was found.
No arrest was made.
