A Police Constable stationed at the Cove and John Police Station is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he swerved from hitting a horse on the Buxton Railway Embankment early Saturday.
Police Headquarters reported that Athea Garnette, 27, of Enmore North, East Coast Demerara suffered severe injuries to the brain and mouth. A pillion rider identified as Jomo Thompson was also injured in the accident. Police said Thompson left the hospital without seeking medical attention.
According to reports Garnette was proceeding west along the southern lane of Buxton Railway Embankment at about 01:30h Saturday when an unbranded horse ran into the path of the motorcycle. As a result Garnette attempted to swerve to avoid a collision when he lost control and fell onto the roadway.
Police investigations are ongoing.
