Cops injured after speeding ATV loses control

Two police officers attached to the Bartica Police Station were injured on Saturday after the motor ATV they were on lost control on the Puruni Trail, Mazaruni River.

The ATV was being driven by a 47-year-old resident of Bartica. Police Sergeant Kester Moriah and Police Constable Shaquille Downer were the pillion riders.

Police Headquarters reported that the officers travelled to the Puruni Backdam to investigate a robbery and while returning on the trail, the driver was speeding when he collided with a bump on the road and lost control.

The officers were thrown off the vehicle and received injuries about their bodies. Sergeant Moriah was picked up in a semi-conscious state and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.

Police investigations are ongoing.
