Police have discovered the burnt remains of a husband and wife in their Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara house almost an hour after it was set on fire during an argument.

The News Room understands that the couple was found hugging each other inside a bedroom in the upper flat of the newly constructed concrete house.

Neighbours identified them as “Cindy” and “Red man.” Police sources indicated to the News Room that it appears as if the couple had a scuffle inside their car, which is parked in the yard.

Neighbours said they heard the couple arguing and then there was silence, but shortly after, at around 8:40pm, they noticed the house was on fire and so they called the fire service.

According to the residents, the couple would visit the house regularly during the construction phase but they fully moved in last weekend and so they are not well-known in the community.

The News Room will provide more information as it becomes available.
