The Guyana Fire Service is trying to contain a fire in Eccles New Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara after a man set it alight Tuesday night.
Neighbours told the News Room that they heard the couple arguing and then there was silence, but shortly after, at around 8:40pm, they noticed the house was on fire and so they called the fire service.
It is not known at this time whether the wife and the husband managed to escape from the burning house; firefighters are battling to save neighbouring houses from the fire.
The News Room understands that the house was under renovation and the couple only relocated there last weekend. The Police are at the scene.
