Over 1,500 households severely affected by flooding in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on Sunday reported that a total 1,543 houses were severely flooded as a result of persistent rainfall at the weekend.

In Region Two, the communities affected are Charity, Annandale, Riverstown, Reliance, Pomona, Aberdeen/Zorg-en-Vlygt and Evergreen/Paradise. The areas affected in Region Two are Cornelia Ida, Best village, Crane, Sisters Village and Stewartville.

In Region Four, several communities in Georgetown are affected including Albouystown and Charlestown while areas on the East Coast of Demerara, including Mon Repos – North, Good Hope, Annandale, Goedverwagting, Industry/Plaisance, Beterverwagting, Triumph, Buxton, Foulis and others are affected.

The Region Five communities affected are in the West Coast Berbice area including De Edward Village, Bushlot, Cotton Tree and Rosignol while several parts of Linden in Region ten are flooded.

As a result, the disaster risk management agency said 1,649 hampers were distributed to the residents and the Regional Democratic Councils.

The CDC said it has also been distributing sandbags and coordinating with the neighbourhood democratic councils to assist residents.

The CDC is also distributing sandbags and monitoring and responding to flood reports in the affected regions.
