Intruder shot dead by Timheri businessman

Police have reported that a 26-year-old man who entered the home of a Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) businessman was shot dead early Monday morning.

Police said that the businessman, Baldeo Rampersaud, and his wife were awakened by a strange noise at around 02:30 hrs.

Rampersaud noticed the doorknob on his bedroom door moving as if someone was trying to get in, and so he reached for his licenced shotgun and loaded three(3) cartridge, Police stated. When he opened his bedroom door, the businessman told investigators that he saw the shadow of someone running; he gave chase and confronted the intruder in the kitchen.

Police said a scuffled ensued, and during this time, a shot was fired.

The suspect reportedly ran into the dining area of the house and kept gesturing, and the businessman fired another shot, Police stated.

A third shot was fired by Rampersaud after the intruder reportedly ran behind a wall and hid in a room. That shot penetrated the wall and hit the intruder.

“The suspect fell flat on the floor in a horizontal position trembling and moments after he was motionless,” Police stated.

The intruder was taken to the Georgetown Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
