The police are investigating the armed robbery committed on 35-year-old Cleveland Mentore a gold miner of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and 29-year-old Shelly Thomas of Industry, ECD, which occurred on Monday night on the Ogle seawall.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the couple was on the seawall in the vicinity of Shell Gas Station at around 21:30h; it is alleged that Mentore parked his car – a silver-grey 212 (PLL 2315) – with the engine on when two men, one armed with a handgun, confronted them.

According to the police, Cleveland, upon seeing the handgun, ran away, and at a safe distance, he threw a glass bottle in the direction of the suspects; the suspects, however, fired two shots in his direction.

They then searched Thomas before driving away with Cleveland’s car in an eastern direction. The vehicle, at the time, contained the following: a 32″ Samsung television valued $140,000; a stabilizer valued $12,000; a speaker box valued $12,000; and two cellular phones – a Samsung A2 Core valued $30,000 and a Samsung Galaxy 8 Note valued $200,000.

No one has been arrested thus far.
