Planning underway for KMTC Boxing Day meet
The Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) is hopeful of hosting its marque Boxing Day race meet this year, according to President Dennis DeRoop. Like other sport, Horse-racing has been on hold due to the COVID-19 situation in Guyana.
In an invited comment on Tuesday, DeRoop said the executives have been discussing the possibility of having the traditional season-ending race meet, and they have reached out to the National COVID-19 Task Force and the Minister of Health to get a gauge on how best a race meet could be staged, in accordance with the stipulated safety guidelines.
DeRoop added that they will have further conversations with the Task Force and the Minister once the COVID-19 measures for December are finalised.
As of now, the aim is to have the event behind closed doors or with a very small crowd, subject to the approval of the subject minister and the Task Force.
Seven races are carded for the day and there is the possibility the event could be streamed live or have a delayed broadcast.
Events on the provisional programme are the L Class Open (1100m), Two-Year-Old (1100m), Three-Year-Old (1400m), K Class (1100m), L Class non-winner (1100m), H Class (1400m) and J Class (1400m).
