Boy with disability found dead in Cane Grove canal

Police are investigating the circumstances under which a nine-year-old boy with a disability from Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara was found dead in a canal Monday afternoon; it is suspected that the boy drowned after wandering out of his yard.

He was a student of the Virginia Primary School.

According to the Police, the boy lived with his father and mother. He was at his home with his parents and sister but left to go outside without anyone noticing.

At about 17:30 hrs, Police said an alarm was raised and a search began. He was later seen in the canal without his clothes on, Police stated.

The child was taken out of the canal and placed on the dam and the Police were called in and he was taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital at Nabaclis where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem is expected to be done.
