Rodrigues-Birkett formally presents letters of Credence to UN Secretary General

Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Monday formally presented her Letters of Credence to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that she is the first woman and first indigenous person to be appointed as Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN with the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

According to the Ministry, Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett pledged Guyana’s support for the work of the United Nations and the Secretary-General’s reform initiatives.

The ceremony Monday finalised the accreditation process following a virtual accreditation held on October 2, 2020.
