Virtual “Resilience” Bodybuilding and Fitness competition set for December 12

The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) has teamed up with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to stage what is dubbed the “Resilience” Bodybuilding and Fitness competition, set for December 12, 2020, at the National Cultural Centre.

The event would be done Virtually and will be “streamed on all popular social media networks”, the GBBFF said in a press release on Tuesday.

“With the country still navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, the GBBFF and the MCY&S wish to remind all Guyanese of our ‘resilience’ to withstand the testing of the times. Hence, the said competition is to celebrate life, health, fitness and our resilience as Guyanese whilst promoting healthy lifestyle and healthy living,” the GBBFF said.

The release added: “Athletes, backstage personnel and the executive of the GBBFF undertake to observe all COVID-19 protocols. While on stage, athletes will be required to stand six feet apart from each other, while backstage athletes will be required to wear their masks and to maintain the mandatory physical distancing. Judges will be seated six feet from each other and will be required to wear their masks.”

Athletes

On the night of the competition there will be about 36 athletes competing in the four different segment of the competition. These are: Bodybuilding Light weight (all athletes at 165 pounds and lower); Bodybuilding Heavy weight (all athletes at 166 pounds and higher); Bikini and Men’s Physique.

Some of the athletes who have already signed up to compete include the reigning Mr. Guyana Marlon “Bolo” Bennet, reigning Ms. Guyana Bikini champion Roseanna Fung, CAC finalist Darious Ramsammy, reigning 2020 Novices Bodybuilding champion, reigning 2020 Novices Bikini and Men’s Physique champions, Guyana Strong Man winner, Carlos Petersen and many more accomplished athletes from the three counties.

Guest Poser 

Reigning CAC Gold Medalist, multiple-time Mr. Guyana champion and one of Guyana’s top elite athletes, Kerwin Clarke, will take up the honours of guest posing for Guyana on the night of the competition.

Prizes

The top three finishers of each segment will receive cash prizes as follows:

1st Place: G$100,000

2nd Place: G$70,000

3rd Place: G$50,000

The overall winner of the Bodybuilding segments will receive G$200,000.
