The police are investigating the burglary committed on the house of 72-year-old Abdool Nazim, a pensioner of La Jalousie Public Road, West Coast Demerara, who lost $900,000.

A police report noted that a student, who was employed by the pensioner, was taken into custody and questioned by the police but he was subsequently released into the custody of his aunt.

According to the police, on November 16, the pensioner left his house to go plough his rice field in the Windsor Forest backdam between 8:00h and 12:00h but he forgot to lock the door to the house and the student was left at the house.

The pensioner told the police that at around 12:00h, the student met him at the backdam and reported that someone ransacked the house. As such, the pensioner immediately went home and observed several drawers and his briefcase, which had the money, were ransacked.

The briefcase was under a chair but the money was missing. Police said the pensioner became suspicious and questioned his student employee who denied the allegation.

Investigations are ongoing.
