Teen boy shot dead by friend who was playing with father’s gun

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown after he reportedly accidentally shot his friend in the head and killed him.

Dead is 15-year-old Rockey Sawh, a student of David Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters reported that Sawh was shot to the right side head on Tuesday at about 18:00h while at the suspect’s house. Police said the suspect invited Sawh over since he was home alone.

It is alleged that the suspect broke the lock of a wardrobe where his father kept a licensed .32 Taurus pistol.

“After retrieving same, he then showed it to [the] victim and accidentally pulled the trigger. As a result, the victim was shot to his right side head and fell to the ground,” the police statement noted.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted in a critical condition and subsequently died at about 17:00h Wednesday.

The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem. The firearm, along with seven live matching rounds, a spent shell and 149.32 rounds were retrieved from the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
