Four teams record wins on opening day of GCB Over-40 tourney


Bel Air Rubis, West Demerara Mavericks, Jai Hind Jaguars and West Berbice recorded victories on Saturday, the opening day of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Over-40 T20 competition, sponsored by Tropical Spring Water.

At the Enmore Community Centre ground, Bel Air Rubis defeated Sandpiper Masters by 92 runs and West Demerara Mavericks got the better of RP Construction Legends by 21 runs.

At the Jai Hind ground, host Jai Hind Jaguars began the competition with a 29-run success over General Marine Masters, while West Berbice defended a low total against Sarjoo Tigers, winning by 16 runs.

At Enmore: Bel Air Rubis defeated Sandpiper Masters by 92 runs. Bel Air Rubis 149-4 from 20 overs (Richard Ramdeen 59, Nirmaldeo Sarwan 38, Shaun Massiah 17*) vs Sandpiper Masters 57 all out in 17.2 overs (Arthur Duke 3-17, Shaun Massiah 2-4)

At Enmore: West Demerara Mavericks defeated RP Construction Legends by 21 runs. West Demerara Mavericks 94-6 from 15 overs (Lalta Sukhnanan 40, Munishwar Balgobin 34, Khaled Mohamed 2-5) vs RP Construction Legends 73-8 from 15 overs (Khaled Mohamed 31, Nigel Vieira 2-10)

At Jai Hind: Jai Hind Jaguars defeated General Marine Masters by 29 runs. Jai Hind Jaguars 139-6 from 15 overs (Kamraj Sumair 58, Zahir Mohamed 40*, Narine Deonarine 17, Winston London took a hat-trick) vs General Marine Masters 110-3 from 15 overs (Daram Hemraj 42, Mustac Shaw 18, Surujpaul Mohan 17, Zahir Moakan took two wickets)

At Jai Hind: West Berbice defeated Sarjoo Tigers by 16 runs. West Berbice 85 all out in 16.3 overs (Rayban Hemraj 18, Gopaul Dindyal 4-7, Mark Ferreira 2-10) vs Sarjoo Tigers 69 all out (TagenarineRamroop 20, Trevor Crawford 4-9)

Meanwhile, the two matches scheduled for the Everest ground were abandoned without a ball bowled owing to a wet outfield.

The tournament continues today (November 22), with matches in Berbice and Demerara.

At Jai Hind ground in West Berbice, Sarjoo Tigers will take on Jai Hind Masters at 09:30h, while the afternoon encounter, which is scheduled to commence at 13:45h will bring together General Marine Master and West Berbice.

In Demerara, the first match at the Enmore Community Centre will also begin at 09:30h with RP Construction Legends competing against Sand Piper Masters, followed by Regal Masters versus Everest Masters.

At the Everest ground, West Demerara Mavericks will battle KV Construction Masters in the morning encounter from 09:30h, while at 13:45h, West Demerara Masters will compete against Bel Air Rubis Ultra Tec.
