    Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat on Monday recommissioned the Aurora Gold Mines Processing Plant following its acquisition by Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd last August.

    Minister Bharrat in his remarks to management and staff at a ceremony at the mines emphasized the need for due diligence, environmental and sustainable mining practices, and compliance with the Mining Act and Regulations of Guyana.

    The Minister was taken on a guided tour of the mines, inspecting staff accommodation, health, and recreational facilities.

    Further, the Minister urged the company to invest in building the technical capacity of its staff and enhance collaboration with the relevant government agencies to ensure the potential of the large-scale mining operation are realized for the benefit of all Guyanese.

    To date, Zijin has employed 639 staff, with 587 being Guyanese.

    The Natural Resources Minister was accompanied by Mr. Shyam Nokta, President of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association and Chairman of the Advisory Panel on Local Content, Mr. Joslyn McKenzie, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources, Dr. K. J. Srinivasa Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Mr. Vijayakumar Kizhapate, Counsellor, High Commission to India, Mr. Krishna Ramdass, Mines Manager of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and other representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
