Gold miner arrested for stabbing drinking buddy

Police have arrested a 57-year-old gold miner of Anna Regina, Squatting Area, Essequibo Coast, for stabbing his drinking buddy, Mortimer Sooknanan, 29, a labourer of Queenstown, Essequibo.

Police said the suspect was arrested a few minutes after the incident; he was found with the knife used in the attack and reportedly confessed to the crime, however, the suspect is alleging that Sooknanan attacked him first.

According to reports, Sooknanan and the suspect were drinking at about 16:45h on Monday at Anna Regina during which an argument ensued. The suspect then pulled out the knife from his waist and slashed Sooknanan to the left side face, a police report noted.

Sooknanan made a report at the Anna Regina police station and was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he is admitted in a stable condition.
