As of Tuesday afternoon, Team Guyana’s time of two hours, 27 minutes and 56 seconds (2:27.56s) stands 85th on a list of 8,408 entries in the ASICS World Ekiden Marathon race on Sunday.
The relay race, which had varied distances for athletes, began at Mahaica and concluded at the Georgetown Seawall Bandstand.
Guyana was represented by Jonathan Fagundes (captain), Ronnell Newton, Royston Fordyce, Cleveland Forde, Winston Missigher and Cleveland Thomas.
Fagundes ran the first 5km in 17:26s, followed by Newton, who did his 5km 13 seconds faster. On the first 10km individual distance, Fordyce finished in a time of 37 minutes, 45 seconds.
The seasoned Forde ran the next 5km in 17.06s after which Missigher was timed at 34:11s in the 10k. Thomas had the final 7.2km and finished in a time of 24:15s.
The Ekiden is a marathon relay consisting of teams of six persons, who run against the clock to compete with other teams around the world.
