Police destroy $3.4M in ganja; seize guns, ammo in Berbice River

The Guyana Police Force destroyed approximately $3.4M worth in marijuana plants and a camp at Gatetroy Village, Berbice River on Wednesday.

Police, in a statement, said the partly harvested marijuana field was found with about 300 plants measuring about four to six feet in height.

Additionally, a party of ranks on Wednesday after being tipped off went to a house at DeVeldt Village, Berbice River and uncovered a number of guns and ammunition hidden under the floorboards. Police said, “an identifiable man” managed to escape from the house in some nearby bushes.

The following firearms and ammunition were taken to Central Police Station and lodged:

(1) One double barrel 12 gauge shotgun #SESPRR

(2) One 20 gauge shotgun #200109495

(3) One .32 shotgun  #98015SB

(4) Two OPS air guns

(5) Nine 12 gauge, one 20 gauge and five .32 cartridges.
