Prisoners injured during stabbing at Lusignan prison
Two inmates at the Lusignan prison on the East Coast of Demerara were Thursday morning injured about their bodies when a fight erupted.
Senior Superintendent of Prisons (ag), Deoraj Gyandat reported that at about 10:27h, convicted prisoner, Diquan Hamilton, who is currently serving a two-year sentence for attempted robbery, was in an argument with convicted prisoner, Shadrack King, known as Mark King, who is serving two years for robbery.
That argument resulted in a fight.
A statement from the prison said an alarm was raised and both prisoners were taken to the prison infirmary where it was discovered that King received a stab wound to his left forearm while Hamilton received a single penetrating wound to the left lateral thorax.
Hamilton was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention. He was admitted for 24 hours observation. His injury is considered non-life-threatening.
The police were immediately informed of the incident and have launched an investigation.
