The police have laid charges against Nigerian national, Uche Raymond Okoye, also known as Uche Parker, who is allegedly part of a criminal organisation targeting women on Facebook.

Police, in a release, noted that Okoye entered Guyana illegally from Brazil through Lethem and is part of the criminal scheme, which seeks to fraudulently receive cash deposits from unsuspecting Guyanese victims.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on November 24, 2020, charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence, demanding money by menace and having entered Guyana illegally.

“Uche Raymond Okoye is suspected to be part of a criminal network involving Nigerian Nationals who collaborate with other associates and solicited cash from their victims by promising high valued merchandise to be delivered following the payment of a charge or fee amounting to millions from four victims so far,” the police said.

He appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded not guilty to the charges; he was remanded to prison until December 7, 2020.

“More charges will be laid against him and probably others shortly as the investigation widens and more victims are coming forward with reports.”

Police said the criminal network has been ongoing for the past six months in Guyana with links to the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay and the United States of America, among other countries.
