A 26-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown High Court after he confessed to raping a 14-year-old girl in 2017.

Akeem Wong called ‘Ben Laden’ admitted that on June 30, 2017, in the county of Demerara, he engaged in sexual penetration with a girl who was under the age of 16.

Wong was represented by attorney-at-law Mark Conway while the state was represented by prosecutors Teriq Mohamed and Nafeeza Baig.

According to a probation report, the victim is still traumatized and is living in fear.

Wong in the report said that he did not know the victim was 14 at the time but she had consented to him.

The Judge in sentencing Wong considered that violence was used during the commission of the crime and the psychological trauma it had on the victim.

In the end, Wong was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the crime.

Wong said she consented but the highlight of the crime was violence? Sound like consent to anybody?
