Boat captain stabs self to death over girl, 14

A 52-year-old boat captain of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara stabbed himself to death after he could not have a relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

Dead is Jeffery Narine.

The incident occurred at a shop at Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown on Monday at about 13:00h. Police Headquarters in a statement said Narine also stabbed the teen girl’s mother, 36-year-old Michelle Russell, to the abdomen and left hand. She is in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to the police, earlier on Monday, Narine went to the young girl’s home at about 09:00h and threatened to kill Russell along with the teen if he could not have a relationship with the teen.

“Michelle Russell rebuked him, telling him that he cannot be with her daughter after which he left her home,” Police said.

Four hours later, Narine returned to the house, armed with two cutlasses and a knife and attacked Russell.

Police said “he then left the yard saying he will kill someone.”

The police further reported that after a report was made to the Ruimvedlt Police Station, ranks went out to investigate and upon seeing the police, Narine took out the knife and stabbed himself to the neck.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene; he was taken to the Lyken Funeral home.
