Affiliates of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) were on Tuesday afternoon beneficiaries of COVID-19 assistance, compliments of the K.A. Juman-Yassin-led organisation.

The relief comes in the form of G$50,000, a temperature gun and hand sanitiser to each of the 26 Federations/Associations that fall under the GOA.

It comes at a time where most of the non-contact disciplines have resumed competition or training given the lift on restrictions.

“Now there has been some lifting of it [COVID Restrictions] and the Guyana Olympic Association is very cognisant and we have decided to assist associations to resume in a safe manner,” the GOA head stated.

Both President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, and First Vice-President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), Assistant Superintendent Sheryl Hermonstine, thanked the GOA for the assistance and explained it comes a perfect time since they have events or training programmes on the horizon.

Hermonstine explained the assistance comes as the AAG prepares to host the South American 10K on Sunday. The race will be contested on the West Coast of Demerara, from Mary to Edinburgh.

Ninvalle indicated they will soon have an encampment for their boxers at the National Gymnasium and the assistance from the GOA is valuable.

As of November 1, sport activities were allowed to resume pending approval from the Minister of Health, while gyms were allowed to operate at 50% capacity.
