Guyana’s top female badminton player Priyanna Ramdhani continues to make progress in her athletic and academic pursuits in Canada.

The badminton standout, who is on scholarship at Olds College, recently copped two awards for the activity year 2019/2020.

Priyanna was bestowed with the Canadian College Athletic Association’s National Scholar Award in recognition of her excellence in academics and athletics, and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s Academic Athletic Award in recognition of a high standard of academic achievement combined with an extra-ordinary level of participation in post-secondary athletics.

“She has fully demonstrated that success in sport and academics can be done simultaneously,” the Guyana Badminton Association said.

In an invited comment, Priyanna told News Room Sport that she was amazed by the recognition, especially as it came during her first year in college.

“When I arrived at Canada, I was determined to improve myself in both academic and sport because it was kind of like a new start for my life. I put in hard work studying and completing my assignments late at nights because I’m more motivated in the night time after coming home from badminton practice,” Priyanna related on Tuesday.

“I hope to continue achieving well for both school and sport because it won’t just help me, but it will also assist other athletes who look up to me and it is with my greatest pleasure to represent Guyana in not only sport, but also in academic in a way. I also would like to advise all athletes to keep up with both their sport and education because it will make a great impact on your life in the future.”
