A Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, Berbice woman is in a critical condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital after she was stabbed multiple times by her reputed husband.
Police Headquarters in a statement said 35-year-old Rajwatttie ‘Shakira’ Punie was stabbed to the abdomen, hands and feet on Wednesday at about 13:05h.
Police said Punie and her husband were heard arguing in the lower flat of their two storey house and shortly after, their 13-year-old son went downstairs and saw Punie with blood all over her body and the husband was holding a knife in his hands. The man then walked out of the yard and escaped.
The police said the man is suspected to be hiding out by relatives in Black Bush Polder.
Regional Commander, Superindent Jairam Ramlakhan assured that every effort is being made to arrest the suspect.
