President Irfaan Ali on Friday dispatched invitations to all former Presidents of Guyana to a meeting with him on December 15, 2020.
The President made the announcement on Friday while speaking at the launch of the Canada-Guyana Chamber of Commerce at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
Ali said there have been no responses to the letters. The intent of the meeting is to allow for the generating and sharing of ideas on moving Guyana forward.
“We will talk about how we see Guyana’s development, different perspectives and then work out a model and framework on how we will engage in the future and how we have continuous contributions,” President Ali said.
President Ali said the “open flow” meeting was something he had intended on doing since his inauguration in August 2020. Those who were invited include Ali’s predecessor and leader of the APNU+AFC Coalition, David Granger.
Ali had previously said that he had no intention of meeting with the coalition opposition until it recognises him as the legitimate President of Guyana.
The other former presidents include Donald Ramotar and Samuel Hinds of Ali’s PPP Party and Bharrat Jagdeo, who currently serves as Ali’s Vice President and sits in his Cabinet.
