Eccles youth dies in LBI accident

A 22-year-old man of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) died at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Saturday morning, hours after his car crashed into a utility pole at La Bonne Intention (LBI) Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Anthony Patterdin. Police said that Patterdin, the lone occupant in the rcar, was speeding along the northern side of the road when he lost control and collided with a utility pole on the southern side and ended up in a nearby trench.

The accident occurred at about 22:30h on Friday.

In videos shared on social media, it was revealed that the car slid a few feet and also collided with a concrete bridge. Firefighters were called to the scene to retrieve Patterdin from the vehicle.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient in a serious condition. He succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at about 01:30h Saturday.

The body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
