Two boys, a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old, appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with the rape of a 7-year-old girl, whom they allegedly snatched from her bedroom on December 4.

The 15-year-old and his accomplice, Nicholas Allen – both of Potaro Road, Bartica – appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam and were remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre and the Lusignan Prison, respectively until December 31, 2020.

The News Room had reported that the incident occurred at between 3:00am and 3:45am. The child’s distraught mother told the News Room that she retired to bed just around 22:00h with her smallest child, while the 7-year-old and her brother, went to sleep in a separate room.

The mother said she woke up at around 3:00h and noticed her son in her bed and so she went to check on her daughter when she discovered her missing. She also noticed the door to her house was opened and so she ran outside desperately looking for her daughter.

The young mother of three said she was joined by neighbours and a search party was launched.

The mother had expressed disappointment in the actions of the police given the fact that they were contacted to help the family in the search but the ranks told the mother that she can only file a missing person’s report after 24 hours have elapsed.

The mother eventually found her daughter naked in some bushes with marks of violence on her body. Without any help from the police, the mother took her daughter to the hospital.
