A total of 79 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Thursday from 238 tests, taking Guyana’s overall number of confirmed cases to 5, 811.

According to the Ministry of Health, Region Ten recorded the highest number of cases with 26 new cases; this is followed by Region Two with 22 cases.

The other cases were recorded in Region One with 11 new cases, Region Four recorded five new cases, Region Five recorded four new cases, Region Six recorded nine new cases and Region Seven recorded two new cases.

Thirty-seven new recoveries were also recorded taking the total number of recoveries to 4, 925.

There are 684 patients in home isolation, 42 patients in institutional isolation and six patients are now in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Disease Hospital at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

To date, 154 persons have died.
