Police investigators are probing an alleged arson attempt at the Arakaka Police Outpost, North West District (NWD).

A police statement said the act was committed by person or persons unknown and occurred in the wee hours of Friday at about 02:30h.

A subordinate officer, who was on duty at the time, along with other ranks, said he was performing duties in the enquiries office when a loud explosion was heard and followed by a huge blaze to the front door of the building.

They sprang into action and immediately rushed and extinguished same with water.

Further checks disclosed that the front door of the building was scorched and a partly burnt five-gallon bottle was at the front door. They made further checks around the building, but no one was seen around the area.

No one was injured during the incident.

Investigations by the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service have commenced.
