Regal Masters created history at the weekend, becoming the inaugural champions of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Over-40, T20 competition, sponsored by Tropical Spring Water.
The city-based side defeated West Demerara Masters by seven wickets at the Everest ground, thanks mainly to a superb all-round effort from Anthony Ifill.
Ifill first contributed with the ball, claiming 2-11, the identical figure as Eon Abel, as Regal Masters limited West Demerara Masters to 119-8 from the allotted 20 overs.
Chabraj Ramcharran topscored for West Demerara Masters with 29, while Ramesh Thakur and Ganesh Persaud made 27 and 24 respectively.
Ifill and fellow opener Chien Gittens then laid the platform for victory, adding 60 for the first wicket. Gittens made 35 and Ifill 36 and their good work at the top was backed up by Fiaz Mohamed (26*) and David Dick (17*) as Regal Masters won in 16.5 overs.
