US Open T20: Hemraj (50*, 2-10) stars in Somerset Cavaliers win
Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Chandrapaul Hemraj produced with bat and ball to lead Somerset Cavaliers to victory in game three on day one of the US Open T20 competition on Tuesday.
Playing at Central Broward Regional Park, Cavaliers thumped Samp Army by nine wickets with more than half the overs to spare.
Hemraj, opening the bowling with his left-arm spin, claimed 2-10 off three overs as Samp Army posted 133-3 from the allotted 20 overs.
Kunal Sehgal topscored for Samp Army with 61 off 55 balls (4x4s, 2x6s) and Sanjay Stanley made 59 off 49 (3x4s, 2x6s).
In reply, Hemraj and fellow opener Kennar Lewis pulverized the opposition’s bowlers, racing to an opening stand of 94 in just 5.5 overs.
Lewis blazed to 61 off 23 (6x4s, 5x6s) and Hemraj remained to end with 50 off 25 balls (4x4s, 5x6s) as Cavaliers won in 9.5 overs.
In the earlier games, Atlanta Paramveers defeated 22 Yards by six wickets and Brampton Pacers prevailed by four wickets over Afghan Zwanan.
Of the Guyanese on show on the first day, Sherfane Rutherford topscored in a losing cause for 22 Yards, while Ronsford Beaton’s bowling effort could not inspire victory for Afghan Zwanan.

Brampton Pacers defeated Afghan Zwanan by four wickets: Afghan Zwanan 133-9 from 20 overs (Paul Palmer 45*, Cody Chetty 34, Mark Deyal 2-18, Salman Nazar 2-20, Junaid Siddiqui 2-25) vs Brampton Pacers 135-6 from 18.5 overs (William Perkins 31, Asad Zaidi 27*, Ronsford Beaton 2-27).
