Mahaica businesswoman, others robbed by gun wielding bandits

A Mahaica, East Coast Demerara businesswoman and two others were robbed of cash, jewellery and phones on Saturday by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm.

According to a police statement, the armed robbery was committed on Pramkumarie Singh, 49, of Riverview Mahaica, Nadia Singh, 29, and Kuntie Singh, 24.

The businesswoman was relieved of $300,000 cash, a quantity of GT&T and Digicel phone cards, one gold ring and a gold band valued at $20,000 and one Iphone.

Meanwhile Nadira was robbed her wedding band and gold chain valued at $46,000 and one Iphone. The men also took away Kuntie’s two gold rings valued at $30,000.
The police said the businesswoman operates a grocery shop on the lower flat of her two-storey wooden and concrete house.

Just after noon on Saturday, the trio was in the shop selling when the two suspects entered and ordered two beers.

Police said the woman handed over the beers to them after which one of the suspects requested a change of beverage.

“The victim was about to hand over the beverage when the suspect, who was armed and unmasked, jumped through the hole at the counter and held them at gun point and demanded cash and jewelry. He then lashed the victim to her chin and left side face while demanding cash and jewelry,” police said.

The other suspect then entered the shop through the southern door where they took out the cash and cell phone cards from a draw and proceeded to assaulted the other victims and took away their personal items.
They then took one of the victims to the upper flat before returning to the lower flat and made good their escape in an unknown direction.
Investigations are ongoing .
