Police have arrested 41-year-old George Douglas after he crashed into a pedal cyclist on the Stewartville Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Monday night.
The pedal cyclist, 55-year-old Rajendra Doodnauth of Uitvlugt Pasture, WCD was pronounced dead at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
Police said the accident occurred at about 10:40 hrs. According to reports Douglas was speeding along the northern side of the road when the pedal cyclist, who was proceeding in the same direction of the car, allegedly made a sudden turn across the road, resulting in the crash.
Doodnauth landed on the front windscreen of the car and was dragged some distance until he ended up into the northern trench.
The driver remains in custody as investigations continue.
