Sophia youth charged with murder escapes Lusignan Prison

The Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prisons Service are on the hunt for a prisoner identified as Ishaka John, 25, of 109 ‘A’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown. Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that John  escaped from the Lusignan Prison Holding Bay sometime between 02:00h and 02:20h Wednesday.

According to the statement John was seen by three ranks of both the Police Force and the Prison Service while he was on top of a fence. As a result several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him but he continued to run in an eastern direction between tower four, five and six.

It is unclear if John was injured and a search is currently being conducted around the area and it’s surroundings. An investigation has also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

John was charged for the murder of a man who was strangled to death with a belt on Church Street, Queenstown on October 12, 2019.
