Chief-of-Staff Brigadier Godfrey Bess has announced that, in accordance with Part III Section 16 of the Defence Act Chapter 15:01 of 1977, the promotions of 628 Other Ranks were approved, effective from January 1, 2021. Two hundred and eighty-seven Other Ranks were confirmed in their Rank while another 341 were elevated in rank.
The soldiers were promoted through ranks ranging from Substantive Warrant Officer Class One to Acting Lance Corporal, and the list includes 17 ranks from the Coast Guard and another 35 from the Guyana People’s Militia (GPM). Leading the Other Ranks promotions are Warrant Officers Class One Kurt Trotman and Selwyn Douglas. Leading the list at the Coast Guard is Acting Chief Petty Officer Charlton Phillips, while, at the GPM, Acting Warrant Officer Class Two, Glendon Aaron headed the list.
Those who have been confirmed in rank have been appointed to “Substantive” rank after previously holding the “Acting” rank.
The promotion of officers is to be announced.
The Chief-of-Staff has extended congratulations to all the promoted soldiers.
