Drunk driver runs over pedestrian on pavement at LBI

A 40-year-old man is currently hospitalized after he struck down by a drunk driver on the La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara (ECD) public road on Saturday night.

Police said 47-year-old Seandell Shannon, a salesman of Hope Estate, ECD was speeding along the public road when he lost control of his motorcar #PSS 3512 and veered off the left side of the road.

He collided with the right side of a motor car #PGG7332 which was parked on the northern parapet before hitting the pedestrian who was sitting on the corner of the road.

In CCTV footage seen by the News Room, the vehicle then toppled and landed on the pedestrian who was thrown a short distance away from the pavement.

As a result, both vehicles received damages and the pedestrian received injuries about his body; he was then picked up in a conscious condition by paramedics and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and placed him in the accident and emergency unit on observation.

His condition remains stable.

Police said a breathalyzer test conducted on Shannon and the reading was .98%.

He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
