Married Men beat Bachelors in LSC Boxing Day contest

Led by a half-century from Keon Franklin and a superb bowling performance from Aknauth Budhai, Married Men defeated Bachelors by 27 runs in the traditional Boxing Day T20 match, hosted by the Lusignan Sports Club.

After Married Men posted 213-8 from the allotted overs, Bachelors were limited to 186 all out in 18.3 overs. The feature match has been played for the last eight years, and now both teams have the same number of wins.

Married Men, winning the toss and electing to bat first in the 13-a-side contest, were led by Franklin’s 65 (4x4s, 4x6s), with support coming from Navin Persaud with 44 (4x4s, 2x6s) and 30 each from Gewan Persaud and Vishnu Ramjeet.

Bowling for Bachelors, Azad Mohamed took 2-24, Mike Persaud 2-26, Roy Seebaran 2-27 and Karamchan Persaud 2-32.

In reply, Bachelors fell short with Kumar Bishundial topscoring with 65 (2x4s, 6x6s), Robin Williams getting 47 (2x4s, 4x6s) and Mohamed 26 (2x4s, 2x6s).

Budhai was outstanding with the ball, claiming 5-24, while Amar Persaud (2-23), Shameer Mohamed (2-27) and Keshwar Singh (2-31) offered support.

Franklin and Bishundial shared the best batsman prize for their identical scores of 65, Budhai was named best bowler and Sackinchan Jhagdeo copped the best catch award.
