    Two friends lost their lives earlier this evening while another person is hospitalized following a head on collision involving two motor cars on the Line Path Public Road, Corriverton, East Berbice Corentyne.

    The dead men have been identified as 26-year-old Thurman Megnauth called Kiran and a 36 -year-old hire care driver Nimrod Persaud called Mice. Both of them were from Line Path Village.

    The injured man has been identified as 38-year-old businessman Sheik Mahmood of No. 76 Village, also on the Corentyne.

    According to a police report, at about18:05h Megnauth was driving motorcar car PLL 4090, a Toyota IST, with Persaud as the passenger heading North on the western lane while Mahmood was driving a Toyota Harrier, PYY 7581 in the opposite direction. Mahmood alleged that as the vehicles were about to pass each other, the Toyota IST suddenly turned into his lane resulting in a head on collision.

    Eyewitnesses speaking to the News Room related that the impact flung the Toyota IST into a nearby canal and it burst into flames and residents rushed to the rescue of the occupants.

    “Kiran living one street away from the accident and when it happen people come out and try to get them out. But them take like about 30 minutes cause them did pin down”, a friend of the victims revealed.

    The men were eventually rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival while Mahmood was admitted and is still receiving medical attention. Firefighters were summoned to
    the scene and assisted in extinguishing the blaze to the IST.

    Police had reported that a breathalyzer conducted on Mahmood revealed he was not under the influence of alcohol. Investigations are ongoing.
