An 18-year-old Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo resident is in police custody after he reportedly struck down pedestrian Shafeek Majeed, 55, of Waller’s Delight, West Coast Demerara.
Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that the accident occurred at about 19:10h on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Police said the teen driver, Ameer Zabar was proceeding east along the northern side of the road at a slow rate when Majeed who was on the opposite side of the road, made an attempt to cross.
As a result he ended up colliding with the vehicle and fell unto the road way. Majeed recieved multiple injuries about his body and admitted at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The driver remains in custody assisting with investigations.
