Atlantic Fuels Inc. Director Eugene Gilbert was on Monday released on $300,000 bail in relation to a charge which claimed that the fuel company made a false declaration to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA)on a custom invoice.

Gilbert, 67, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied that on November 12, 2020, at its Camp Street, Georgetown Headquarters, Atlantic Fuels Inc. caused to be made and subscribed a false declaration on invoice number 100 valuing $100,000, for customs declaration reference number GY 410C, contrary to the Customs Act.

In December 2020, Commissioner-General of GRA Godfrey Statia instituted legal proceedings against the fuel company.

The Magistrate released Gilbert on $300,000 bail and adjourned the case until February 21.

Atlantic Fuel Inc. was granted fuel import, storage and wholesale licenses in November 2015, months after the coalition government went into office.

Directors of the Company are former Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Dr Richard Van West Charles and former Debt Recovery Unit manager at GWI Lear Goring.
