Woman killed after struck down by Police Force’s minibus

Fifty-nine-year-old Dulmattie Boodlall of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara was killed early Tuesday after being struck down by a minibus owned by the Guyana Police Force.

Police Headquarters reported that the bus which is attached to the Tactical Service Unit was being driven by a constable stationed at the Unit and attached to former president, David Granger. The accident occurred on the Nandy Park Public Road, East Bank Demerara in the vicinity the of Shaheed Supermarket.

According to police reports at the time of the accident the East Bank three lane was activated and the minibus was proceeding north along the western side of the eastern carriageway.

The driver alleged that he was approaching the pedestrian crossing when he suddenly saw Boodlall crossing from West to East and as a result he swerved to avoid a collision but due to the short distance the vehicle crashed into Boodlall.

She was picked up by the driver in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital  where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police (ag), Mr. Nigel Hoppie along with Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Linden Isles, Traffic Officer, Superintendent Ramesh Ashram and Officer in-charge Traffic Region 4 B, Assistant Superintendent, Jermaine Harper visited the home Boodlall on Tuesday.

The Commissioner met with family members and relatives and assured them that a thorough investigation will be done and that no stone will be left unturned.
