Gunmen who hired taxi escape with car after robbing driver

Two men who hired a West Demerara taxi duped the driver into taking them to Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara robbed him of his valuables and escaped with his car on Tuesday night.

Police reported that Bhagwandin Narine, 39, was dispatched from his New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop taxi base to make a pickup opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital at about 20:30h.

On arrival, two men, with black face masks, entered the car and asked to be taken to “Policeman corner” in Parfaite Harmonie. One of the men sat in the front passenger seat and the other took the seat just behind the driver.

As the car approached the destination, the man in the back seat choked the driver and pointed a black handgun to his head and told him to stay quiet.

As the car stopped, the other suspect exited the car and pointed a black handgun at the driver’s abdomen and told him that if he made any noise he would die.

The suspects then searched the victim and relieved him of the valuables after escaping in his White Toyota Spacio with registration number PNN 2814, valued at $1.3M. Narine said he had $10,000 cash, a wedding ring valued at $75,000 and a Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued at $ 86,000.
