The body of 74-year- old Deodat, known as ‘John’, a pensioner of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, was found floating with his face down in a trench in Hampton Court on Saturday.

Police Headquarters said they are investigating the matter as an alleged drowning and they described Deodat as a “known alcoholic.”

It is believed the incident took place sometime between Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and Saturday, January 9, 2021. According to the police report, Deodat visited his daughter’s house on Wednesday last at about 17:15h; at the time, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

The daughter claimed that he subsequently left about 17:30h to go home but he never arrived there and so family members became worried and began to search for him.

On Saturday at about 06:30h, family members found Deodat floating in the trench. Deodat was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body is at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
