Archery Guyana continues to make strides in the International arena, this time through its Secretary-General Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, who was appointed Chair of the World Archery Americas inaugural five-member Committee to deal with gender-equity matters.
The creation of this committee is an important step towards enhancing equal involvement of both genders in all Archery-related areas.
Its members will work in collaboration with World Archery’s homonymous committee and Pan Am Sports’ Women in Sports Committee. The Committee comprises Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon (Chair), Barbara Hernandez (DOM), Natalia Londoño (COL), Maria Andrea Mejicanos (GUA), and Cesar Otarola (CHI).
Evelyn Papadopoulou, Chair of World Archery’s Gender Equity Committee, said: “World Archery Americas is the first Continental Association to create a Gender Equity Committee and I would like to congratulate you for that, and I hope that more will follow your example.”
Persaud-McKinnon was instrumental in the implementation of Archery Guyana and the introduction of the sport to Guyana. She served as the first president of the body when it was constituted several years ago.
