A 26-year-old sales representative employed with Beepats was robbed by an armed bandit of $8 million in cash, a silver motorcar with license plates PSS 1855 and a Samsung cellular phone valued at $40,000.
Kevin Gildharie, of La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on duty at the time of the robbery; the car and cash belong to the company.
The robbery occurred on Thursday at about 16:30h in front of M&A Express, located at Mon Repos Pasture, ECD. The News Room understands that Gildharie stopped at the business place to collect cash and while leaving, he was confronted by the bandit.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Gildharie said he observed the bandit, who was wearing a face mask, approaching him after which he [the bandit] grabbed him.
Gildharie told the police that he tried fighting off the bandit but he pulled out a handgun and hit him to the neck. Police said the suspect then drove off with the cash inside the car.
Ranks are still canvassing the area as investigations continue.
