Five children, adult injured in WBD hit and run


Police are on the hunt for a speeding driver who struck down five children and an adult on Sunday at the No.1 Canal Access Road, West Bank Demerara.

Those injured are 3-year-old Mesha Mangar, 8-year-old Rajin and Esha Mahendranauth, 7-year-old Tanesha Mahendranauth, 15-year-old Alana Grant and Lilowattie Barnabas, 29.

Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that the driver of the car was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when he reportedly attempted to overtake two vehicles and lost control and crashed into the children and Barnabas.

The driver fled the scene without rendering assistance.

The victims all sustained multiple injuries about their bodies and were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they are admitted in stable conditions.

Police investigations are ongoing.
