Two COVID-19 deaths, 155 new cases recorded over the weekend

Two men, a 78-year-old from Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne) and a 60-year-old from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), are recorded as the country’s latest COVID-19 deaths.

This takes the total number of deaths to 172. There have been eight COVID-19 deaths recorded for the year thus far.

The Ministry of Health revealed in a statement that both patients died while receiving medical care at a facility on Saturday last.

Meanwhile, a total of 155 new COVID-19 cases were recorded between Friday and Sunday from 933 tests, taking Guyana’s overall number of confirmed cases to 7,298.

Leading the number of new infections is Region Four with 62 new cases. Regions Six and Seven recorded 27 and 23 new cases, respectively, with Regions Three and Five also recording 12 and 11 cases. Both Regions One and Ten recorded seven new cases with Region Two recording four more cases and Region Eight registering an additional two. Region Nine recorded no new cases.
To date, 6, 370 persons have recovered.

There are 713 patients in home isolation, 36 persons are in institutional isolation and seven patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Disease Hospital.
