Police ranks stationed at the Camp Street Prison in Georgetown have arrested a woman who attempted to smuggle marijuana concealed in toothpaste tubes into the penitentiary.

The woman, who was identified as Parveena Kissoon, visited the prison around 10:00h to drop off personal items for a male prisoner currently housed there.  While the items were being checked at the self-support area, prison staff discovered the leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana.

The woman, on noticing the discovery, attempted to run away but was chased by police ranks and arrested. She is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The News Room was reliably informed that the items were being smuggled into the prison for one Alex Lacruz. This is also not the first time that a female has been busted attempting to smuggle narcotics into the prison for this prisoner.
